🚨 Save the Date: St. Croix County’s Most Important Meeting Yet – June 19, 2025 at 5:00PM
St. Croix County residents: your voice is urgently needed. A pivotal decision is on the horizon regarding the proposed Xcel Energy Ten Mile Creek Solar Project and the outcome could change the future of our community.
What’s Happening?
At the June 3, 2025 St. Croix County Board of Supervisors meeting, a major development was revealed. Xcel Energy is pushing for a joint development agreement with the county before they file their official application with the Wisconsin Public Service Commission (PSC).
This agreement could signal the county’s support of the project and strip us of the opportunity to intervene or oppose the solar project at the state level. In short, it would silence our voices before we ever get a chance to be heard.
Key Question: Should St. Croix County partner with Xcel or oppose the project at the PSC?
Why This Meeting Matters
The Community Development Committee will meet on Wednesday, June 19, 2025 at 5:00PM to review the proposed joint agreement with Xcel Energy and decide what to recommend to the full County Board in July. If we don’t speak up, the county may move forward with this controversial solar project without meaningful public input.
What’s at Stake?
Our local control: A joint agreement means the county would likely not object to the project at the PSC hearing.
Environmental risks: Public comment from local resident Kari Willoughby raised serious concerns about an industrial sized solar project installed in a rich karst geological area that is prone to sink holes and cracks to the main aquifer. This would create ground drinking water contamination and environmental hazards.
Future land use: This is just Phase 1 of the project. What starts at 300 megawatts could rapidly grow to 650 megawatts, impacting more farmland, residents, and natural resources.
Show Up. Speak Up. Spread the Word.
We need a packed house on June 19th. Bring neighbors, family, and friends. Make your voice heard with factual, respectful public comments. Let our elected officials know that St. Croix County does NOT support being steamrolled by a corporate utility without a fight.
